At this point, I have a pretty substantial back up plan, and I'm just trusting the Lord in his plan for my life. Right now, I have applied at Mizzou and didn't get in, and then Des Moines University, and I am still waiting to hear back from them. I would really, really like to go to DMU, but if I don't get in, I'm not going to be stressed. Here's my plan:
If I get in, I graduate in May, move to Des Moines over the summer and start school in August.
If I don't get in, I will graduate in May, try for a full time job in the medical field (preferably, ophthalmology or optometry), retake the MCAT in March or April, apply to Mizzou, KCUMB, DMU, and maybe a school in Chicago, for the second year. I really think if I have to apply again it will look good. I have a plan to improve my application and it will show that I am not a quitter; that I don't give up. At the same time I am going to be applying again to all these medical schools, I will also take the OAT (optometry school admissions test) and start applying to optometry schools. If I don't get into medical school, I will pursue a career in optometry. That way I can still be an eye doctor. I feel like I would still have a really fulfilling career and I can still do medical missions and such.
No matter which route I end up taking, I can honestly say that I am excited for what the Lord has in store for me. I am at a completely content place in my life. God has really been showing me how to rely on Him for everything and to give Him control of my life, and I couldn't ask for anything better than the Creator of the Universe to have full control of my life.
My good friend, Laurie, made this painting for me (in purple) and it is absolutely perfect for what I am going through right now. I have changed so much in the past year, since I have taken a break from this blog. I am no longer clinging to having my way and my plan. I am trusting God to take care of me and lead me where he may.
